Schremser is a small family-run brewery based in a protected National park in North Eastern Austria, close to the Czech border. The brewery was first mentioned in 1410 and the original building is still standing to this day. It’s the oldest in the town and is now listed, having survived a host of fires that engulfed the area. The Trojan family purchased the brewery in 1838 and is now in its sixth generation after Karl took it over from his Father in 1991.
Schremser embraces modern brewing techniques and ideas, whilst still remaining close to it traditions by working with farmers in the national park to produce the highest quality malting grains that are harvested and delivered straight to the brewery. Karl then sends them off to the maltsters to be roasted to his exacting standards.
The water used in the brewing process is ‘Primary Rock Water’ drawn directly from source; being very soft and low in lime content means it’s perfect for brewing lagers and pilsners.
Schremser is now seen as one of the best-selling, high-end ‘boutique’ beer brands present on the Vienna beer scene.
