We're delighted to announce the arrival of the much venerated, multi award-winning Austrian cider brand BlakStoc to our growing portfolio of craft drinks.
Meaning ‘old tree’ in medieval German, BlakStoc were the first cidermakers in Europe to dry-hop their entire range, which are all made from pressed wild orchard apples grown in the Styrian hills known as ‘Austria’s Little Tuscany’.
Grown naturally and in the most eco-friendly way, these young, vintage and heirloom apple varieties from the wild trees give BlakStoc cider its unique taste profile, while the carefully selected New-World hop varieties provide the tropical fruit-forward nose, full flavour and classic crisp, tart finish.
Ginger for My Honey - Hopped cider with a shot of fresh ginger juice and a few drops of mountain honey. Subtle spiciness and notes of citrus. Great with Asian cuisine and sushi. 3% ABV, 20 x 330ml bottles.
Quincy Jo & Hops Edition - Jo stands for Johannisbeere, which is German for cassis. The juice of fresh blackcurrant is what gives this hopped cider its beautiful colour. Pressed quince brings out the citrus notes of the hops. 4.5% ABV, 20 x 330ml bottles.
Buddha Hand Lemon Cider - Exotic fruits from the Orangerie at Schönbrunn Palace inspired this cider with the aromatic zest and character of Kaffir Lime, Bergamot, Meyer Lemon and Buddha’s Hand Citron. Lemon Drop hops are used for additional notes of melon, mint and green tea. 4% ABV, 20 x 330ml bottles.
Euroboozer MD Martyn Railton comments:
“We’re extremely proud of our Austrian heritage and the incredible array of speciality drinks which hail from the country. Every other summer, I used to sit on a terrace with a dear friend who made a still cider from the wild trees which grew on their mountainside. I once asked “this is so good, why do you make it every other year?” and he said “well, that’s just when the apples grow!” Karl from Blakstoc has encapsulated everything that this massive apple growing country has to offer. He’s a liquid geek and has pioneered the use of hops in cider like no other in the cider world. The way he showcases how wild, ancient apple varieties can be used in harmony with completely New World tropical hop flavours to intrigue and excite the consumer, is nothing short of masterful. As summer time begins and as interest in craft beer and cider continues to grow, we expect BlakStoc, the perfect marriage between the two categories, to be leading the cider charge. We’re very excited to be bringing them to the UK.”
